Belize Birds and Wildlife Photography — March–April 2028

About this tour

Travel across Belize with a group of no more than seven photographers, following a route designed around birds, wildlife and practical field instruction. Don Mammoser leads the photography, supported by local wildlife specialists. The ten-day departure starts and finishes in Belize City and welcomes both beginners and experienced photographers.

Lamanai is reached by road and boat, providing photographic possibilities before the first lodge stay begins. The ruins and surrounding vegetation add variety to the setting. The next stop is La Milpa, where lodge grounds and forest habitats offer hummingbirds, toucans, tanagers and the possibility of Ocellated Turkey. Monkeys and other wildlife may also feature.

At Crooked Tree, private guided boat outings shift the focus toward waterbirds. Working from a boat offers a chance to practice tracking moving subjects and responding to changing light. The final lodge is in the San Ignacio region, where the group searches for a different mix of forest species, including trogons, woodpeckers and Orange-breasted Falcon. Sightings remain dependent on the birds and conditions.

The price is USD 5,995 per person sharing a room, or USD 6,900 with single occupancy. Nine nights of accommodation, airport transfers, ground travel with a professional driver, meals from the first evening through the final breakfast, photographic site entries, local guiding and the specified sessions are included. Image sharing or critique is offered when time and space permit. Flights, insurance, tips, alcohol and soda, personal expenses and optional extras are excluded.

Most photo spots are close to the lodges, although jungle trails can be slippery and the heat can be tiring. Suitable hiking footwear, rain protection, water and a wildlife lens are useful. Meet the group at 6 pm on March 27 and plan departure from Belize City after about 1 pm on April 5. Use BirdWatch to inquire about joining this departure.
