It has a distinctive black head and neck, with a white band separating the head from the chest. The body is predominantly gray with black and white markings. These geese are often found near mountain lakes, marshes, and grassy areas, where they feed on grasses, sedges, and small aquatic plants. They are known for their seasonal movements, often descending to lower elevations during the non-breeding season. The Andean Goose is a social bird, often seen in pairs or small flocks. Despite facing some threats from habitat degradation and hunting, their population is currently stable.
