Bar-shouldered Dove

The Bar-shouldered Dove is a medium-sized dove species native to northern Australia and southern New Guinea. It is characterized by its distinctive pale blue-grey head, white underparts, and striking black and white barring on the wings and shoulders. This species is commonly found in open woodlands, coastal areas, and urban parks, where it forages for seeds and grains on the ground. The Bar-shouldered Dove forms monogamous pairs and builds a flimsy nest of twigs and grass. Its soothing call is a familiar sound in its range, and it is often seen in small flocks. The conservation status of the Bar-shouldered Dove is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
