Bar-tailed Trogon

Apaloderma vittatum

The Bar-tailed Trogon is a medium-sized bird found in the forests of Central and West Africa. It is known for its vibrant plumage and distinctive call. This species is characterized by its glossy green upperparts, red breast, and black and white barred tail. Bar-tailed Trogons primarily feed on insects and small fruits, and they are often observed perched quietly in the forest understory. They play a vital role in forest ecosystems by dispersing seeds and controlling insect populations. However, habitat loss and fragmentation pose significant threats to their populations.
