Blue-throated Motmot

Blue-throated Motmot, Aspatha gularis, is a bird of Middle America, breeding from southern Mexico to Honduras. It occurs in montane evergreen and pine forest with medium to high humidity. Its tail is long and graduated, unlike that of most motmots because it lacks racquet tips. Adults show an ochre side of the head with a black ear spot, green upperparts, paler green underparts, and a blue throat marked by a black spot below. Young birds are duller, with olive-tinged green on the back.
