Brown-throated Sunbird

Anthreptes malacensis (Scopoli, 1786)

Brown-throated Sunbird, Anthreptes malacensis, is a bird of the Oriental Region and Australasia, breeding from Myanmar through Java, the southern and central Philippines, Sulawesi and the Lesser Sundas. It lives in semi-open country across south-east Asia. A fairly large, heavy sunbird with a thick bill, it reaches about 14 centimetres in length. The male is more striking than the female, with iridescent green and purple upperparts, chestnut on the wing-coverts and scapulars, and yellow underparts. The female is olive-green above and yellowish below.
