Cape May Warbler

Setophaga tigrina

The Cape May Warbler is a small migratory songbird known for its distinctive plumage and unique feeding behavior. During the breeding season, males display striking black streaks on a yellow-green back, with a chestnut cheek patch and white wing bars. Females and non-breeding males have a more subdued appearance with gray-green upperparts and yellowish underparts. This species is primarily insectivorous, often foraging high in the canopy by gleaning insects from the undersides of leaves. Cape May Warblers breed in spruce and fir forests of North America and winter in the Caribbean and Central America. Their population faces threats from habitat loss and climate change.
