Empidonax oberholseri
The Dusky Flycatcher (Empidonax oberholseri) is a small, insect-eating bird found in western North America. It has a dull olive-gray plumage with a pale eye-ring and a slightly hooked bill. This species is known for its distinctive call, a sharp 'whit' or 'whit-wheet' sound. Dusky Flycatchers are often found in open woodlands, chaparral, and montane forests, where they perch on branches or wires to watch for flying insects. They are migratory birds, spending the breeding season in the western United States and wintering in Mexico. Despite their relatively common status, habitat loss and climate change pose potential threats to their populations.
