Gouldian Finch, Chloebia gouldiae, is a passerine of northern Australia, breeding from north-western Western Australia to north-eastern Queensland. It belongs to the Estrildidae family and was described by Gould in 1844. The species is noted for its vivid plumage, with both sexes showing black, green, yellow and red markings. Males have a purple chest, while females have a paler mauve one. Head colour varies between red, black and yellow, and these forms occur in the wild as colour variants of a single species.
