Greater Rhea, Rhea americana, is a flightless bird of south-eastern South America in the family Rheidae. It lives in open country, including grasslands, savanna and grassy wetlands. It is the largest bird in South America and the largest native bird in the Americas. Also known as the grey, common or American rhea, it is one of two species in the genus Rhea. The species was described by Linnaeus in 1758. Its breeding range is in south-eastern South America.
