Green Junglefowl

Gallus varius

The Green Junglefowl, scientifically known as Gallus varius, is a species of bird native to the dense forests of Java and Bali in Indonesia. This striking bird is known for its vibrant green plumage, with a distinct red comb and wattles. The male Green Junglefowl is larger and more colorful than the female, with long, iridescent green tail feathers. These birds are ground-dwelling and primarily feed on seeds, fruits, and insects. They are known for their loud calls, especially during the breeding season. The Green Junglefowl is an important species in its ecosystem and plays a role in seed dispersal. However, habitat loss and hunting pose significant threats to its population.
