Caprimulgus jotaka
The Grey Nightjar (Caprimulgus jotaka) is a nocturnal bird found in East Asia, including Japan, Korea, and parts of China. This species is known for its cryptic plumage, which provides excellent camouflage against the forest floor. Grey Nightjars are insectivorous and use their wide gape to catch flying insects in mid-air. They are often observed near open woodlands, grasslands, and scrubby areas. During the day, they roost on the ground, relying on their excellent camouflage to remain hidden from predators. The Grey Nightjar is known for its distinctive churring call, which is often heard at dusk and dawn.
