Harpy Eagle

Harpia harpyja (Linnaeus, 1758)

Harpy Eagle, Harpia harpyja, breeds from southern Mexico to northern Argentina in Middle America and South America. It is the only species in the genus Harpia. This eagle is found in tropical lowland rainforest, where it uses the upper canopy. It is the largest bird of prey across its range and one of the biggest living eagles. Linnaeus described it in 1758. It belongs to the Accipitriformes and the family Accipitridae.
