Himalayan Vulture, Gyps himalayensis, is a bird of the Himalayas in the Oriental Region, breeding across the mountain range. It was described by Hume in 1869 and belongs to the Accipitridae in the order Accipitriformes. It is the largest of the Gyps vultures and is among the biggest true raptors. It is found mainly in the higher Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau, and its range also extends through parts of Central and South Asia. It is often confused with the similar Eurasian griffon vulture.
