Lappet-faced Vulture

Torgos tracheliotos (Forster, JR, 1796)

Lappet-faced Vulture, Torgos tracheliotos, breeds across Africa and also on the Arabian Peninsula. It is an Old World vulture in the Accipitridae, within the order Accipitriformes. The species is the only living member of Torgos. It is not closely allied to the New World vultures that look similar, and it lacks the strong sense of smell found in some of them. Two subspecies are recognised: the nominate form is widespread in Africa, while T. t. negevensis is confined to the Arabian Peninsula.
