Momotidae — Motmots

Lesson's Motmot, Momotus lessonii, is a motmot of Middle America, breeding from southern Mexico to western Panama. It belongs to the family Momotidae and was described by Lesson in 1842. In its plumage, the crown centre is black and edged with blue, and it has a black mask across the face. It is also known as the blue-diademed motmot. This bird was once treated as the same species as several other motmots, including the blue-capped, whooping, Trinidad, Amazonian and Andean motmots.
