Long-crested Eagle

Lophaetus occipitalis

The Long-crested Eagle is a striking bird of prey found in sub-Saharan Africa. It is easily recognized by its long, shaggy crest and bold black and white plumage. This raptor is known for its agile flight and keen hunting skills, often preying on small mammals, birds, and reptiles. It is typically found in open savannas, grasslands, and woodland areas, where it can be seen perched on elevated vantage points scanning for potential prey. The Long-crested Eagle is a solitary bird, and pairs may be seen during the breeding season. Despite being a powerful and adaptable predator, the species faces threats from habitat loss and persecution, leading to concerns about its long-term survival in some regions.
