Montagu's harrier

Circus pygargus

Montagu's harrier (Circus pygargus) is a bird of prey known for its graceful flight and striking plumage. This medium-sized raptor has long, slender wings and a distinctive white rump that contrasts with its predominantly gray upperparts. The male has a pale gray head and black wingtips, while the female is mostly brown with a streaked underside. Montagu's harriers are often seen gliding low over open grasslands and agricultural fields in search of small mammals and birds. During the breeding season, they construct their nests on the ground in areas with tall vegetation. This species is known for its impressive migratory behavior, traveling thousands of kilometers between its breeding and wintering grounds.
