Chaetura martinica
The Purple Martin is a migratory bird known for its aerial acrobatics and distinctive deep, chattering song. These birds are medium-sized with glossy, iridescent purple-blue plumage and a slightly forked tail. They are highly social and often nest in large colonies in man-made birdhouses. Purple Martins are insectivores, feeding on flying insects caught in mid-air. During breeding season, they prefer open areas near water, while in winter they migrate to South America. Their conservation status is of Least Concern according to the IUCN, due to their large and stable population.
