About this tour
Walk the prairie trails around Chappell Marsh Conservation Area, where a large pond is bordered by grassland, wolf willow and buffaloberry shrubs. This mix of wetland and open-country habitat supports waterbirds and prairie songbirds within easy reach of Saskatoon.
Possible observations include Gadwall, Redhead, Red-necked Grebe, American Avocet, Willet, Purple Martin, Gray Catbird, Brown Thrasher, Savannah Sparrow, Yellow-headed Blackbird and Western Meadowlark. Migrating songbirds may add variety in late May and again around late August and early September.
The outing is a short, two-hour walk of less than one kilometre on relatively flat, mown trails. The guide chooses the most productive route for the day. All sightings remain dependent on season, weather and current bird activity.
