Redhead

Aythya americana

The Redhead is a medium-sized diving duck with a distinctive red head and gray body. Its breeding habitat includes marshes and prairie potholes in North America. During the non-breeding season, it can be found in coastal bays and estuaries. Redheads are omnivorous, feeding on aquatic plants, seeds, and small invertebrates. They are known for their synchronized courtship displays and are often seen in large flocks during migration. The conservation status of the Redhead is of Least Concern according to the IUCN, although threats such as habitat loss and water pollution can impact their populations.
