Redberry Lake Bird Sanctuary Tour – 8 hours with fascinating woodland and water birds
An eight-hour self-drive tour from Saskatoon to Redberry Lake Bird Sanctuary, exploring prairie, woodland, ponds, marshes and saline-lake shoreline.
About this tour
Travel northwest from Saskatoon through grassland, woodland and pond habitat before reaching Redberry Lake Bird Sanctuary. The route then circles the lake for ducks, grebes, marsh birds and shorebirds, with optional woodland walking when conditions permit.
Pelicans, scoters, terns, grebes and shoreline birds can occur at the sanctuary, while nearby prairie and marsh habitat broadens the possibilities. Migration in May, July and August can add arctic-nesting shorebirds. Piping Plover is possible only when shoreline habitat is suitable and is never guaranteed.
This easy, eight-hour self-drive tour uses frequent roadside stops and covers roughly 230 kilometres return from Saskatoon. Participants supply their own or rented vehicle; a spotting scope and possible loaner binoculars support observation.
