Northern Pintail

Anas acuta

The Northern Pintail is a strikingly elegant duck with long, slender neck and pointed tail feathers. The male has a distinctive chocolate-brown head with a white stripe running up the neck, while the female is mottled brown and has a pointed tail. They are known for their graceful, long-necked appearance and are often found in shallow wetlands, marshes, and flooded fields. These ducks are highly migratory, breeding in the northern regions of North America, Europe, and Asia, and wintering in more southerly areas. They are primarily herbivorous, feeding on seeds, aquatic plants, and invertebrates. The Northern Pintail is a species of least concern according to the IUCN Red List.
