Piping Plover

Charadrius melodus

The Piping Plover is a small, pale shorebird with a white underside and upperparts that range from pale gray to sandy brown. It has a distinctive black band across its forehead and a single black band around its neck. This species is known for its melodic piping call and is often found along sandy beaches and coastal dunes. Piping Plovers are highly sensitive to disturbance during their breeding season and are known for their elaborate courtship displays. They are threatened by habitat loss, disturbance, and predation, and conservation efforts are focused on protecting their nesting sites and raising awareness about the importance of preserving their coastal habitats.
