Rainbow Lorikeet, Trichoglossus moluccanus, is a parrot of eastern and south-eastern Australia and Tasmania, with its breeding range extending across Australasia. It was first described by Gmelin in 1788. The bird is associated with rainforest, coastal bush and woodland, and it is also established beyond its native range in places such as Perth, Auckland and Hong Kong. It is a medium-sized parrot with very bright plumage, and the sexes look alike. Juveniles have a black bill that becomes orange as they mature.
