Red Kite

Milvus milvus

The Red Kite is a medium-sized bird of prey known for its striking reddish-brown plumage, deeply forked tail, and graceful flight. These raptors are often seen soaring over open countryside, using their keen eyesight to hunt for small mammals and carrion. Red Kites are known for their acrobatic aerial displays during courtship, where they perform breathtaking dives and twists. Once widespread across Europe, the species faced significant declines due to persecution and habitat loss. Conservation efforts, including reintroduction programs, have led to population recoveries in some areas.
