Phalaropus lobatus
The Red-necked Phalarope is a small shorebird known for its unique feeding behavior. During the breeding season, the female is more brightly colored than the male, with a striking red neck and black cap. This species is highly migratory and can be found in the Arctic during the breeding season and in open waters during the non-breeding season. Red-necked Phalaropes are often seen spinning in circles on the water's surface, stirring up food with their feet. They primarily feed on small invertebrates. This species is known for its remarkable migration, with some individuals traveling thousands of miles between their breeding and non-breeding grounds.
