Rose-throated Tanager

Piranga roseogularis

The Rose-throated Tanager is a striking medium-sized bird found in the highland forests of Central America. It is known for its vibrant plumage, with males displaying a brilliant scarlet body, black wings, and a distinctive rose-colored throat. Females have a more subdued olive-green plumage. These tanagers are often found foraging for insects and fruits in the canopy of montane forests, where they can be observed in small flocks. Their melodious song adds to the charm of these beautiful birds. While they are not currently considered to be at risk, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential threats to their population.
