Russet-naped Wood Rail, Aramides albiventris, is a rail of Middle America, breeding from eastern Mexico to north-eastern Costa Rica. It belongs to the family Rallidae and was described by Lawrence in 1868. It is a resident bird across its range. The species is linked with dense cover in a range of wet and dry habitats, including marshes, swamp forest, river and stream edges, thorn forest, semi-evergreen forest and mangroves. The IOC recognises five subspecies, with populations in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
