Southern Ground Hornbill, Bucorvus leadbeateri, is a hornbill of Africa’s southern and eastern range, from Kenya and Tanzania south to Angola, northern Botswana and eastern South Africa. It belongs to the hornbill family and the order Bucerotiformes. This is the largest hornbill species in the world. It lives in woodland and savanna country. The male has a pure red throat, while the female’s throat is deep violet-blue. It was described by Vigors in 1825.
