Spur-winged Lapwing

Vanellus spinosus

The Spur-winged Lapwing is a medium-sized wader bird found in parts of Europe, Asia, and Africa. It is characterized by its striking appearance, with a black crown, white face, and chestnut nape. The wings have a distinctive spur at the carpal joint, which gives the bird its name. These lapwings are often found in open habitats such as wetlands, marshes, and grasslands, where they forage for insects and small invertebrates. They are known for their loud and distinctive calls, often heard during the breeding season. The Spur-winged Lapwing is a common sight in its range and is not currently considered at risk.
