Swainson's Thrush

Catharus ustulatus (Nuttall, 1840)

Swainson's Thrush, Catharus ustulatus, is a thrush that breeds widely across North America and spends the nonbreeding season in Middle America and South America. It nests in coniferous woods with thick undergrowth, and also uses deciduous woodland on the Pacific coast. A key feature is the white, dark and white pattern on the underwing, shared with other Catharus thrushes. Adults have brown upperparts, pale underparts with brown on the flanks, a lighter brown breast marked with darker spots, pink legs and a light brown eye ring.
