Xenus cinereus

The Terek Sandpiper (Xenus cinereus) is a migratory shorebird found in coastal areas of Europe and Asia. This species is known for its distinctive long, slightly upturned bill and grayish-brown plumage with white underparts. During the breeding season, it can be found in the tundra and wetlands, while in the non-breeding season, it migrates to coastal mudflats and estuaries. Terek Sandpipers forage for invertebrates by probing the mud with their bills. They are known for their agile and swift flight, often seen in small flocks. This species is vulnerable to habitat loss and disturbance, and its conservation status is currently listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
