Tyrian Metaltail

Metallura tyrianthina

The Tyrian Metaltail is a species of hummingbird found in the Andes of South America. It is known for its iridescent green and blue plumage, with a distinctive violet crown and throat. This small hummingbird is often found in high-altitude cloud forests and montane shrublands, where it feeds on nectar from a variety of flowering plants. The Tyrian Metaltail is an important pollinator in its ecosystem, and its presence is an indicator of the health of these habitats. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and climate change, the population status of this species is currently not well-documented.
