Verreaux's eagle

Aquila verreauxii

Verreaux's eagle, also known as the black eagle, is a large bird of prey found in the mountains of southern and eastern Africa. It is known for its striking black plumage, long wingspan, and keen eyesight. This majestic raptor is a formidable hunter, preying on small to medium-sized mammals and birds. Verreaux's eagles are known for their impressive aerial displays and their ability to soar effortlessly on thermal updrafts. They build large stick nests on cliff ledges, where they raise their young. Unfortunately, habitat loss and human disturbance pose significant threats to their populations.
