Calidris fuscicollis

The White-rumped Sandpiper is a small migratory shorebird with a distinctive white rump and a slightly curved bill. During the breeding season, it has a rusty-brown and black mottled upperparts and a white underbelly. In non-breeding plumage, it becomes more grayish-brown with a white belly. This species breeds in the Arctic tundra and migrates to South America for the winter. It forages in mudflats, marshes, and coastal areas, using its long bill to probe for invertebrates. The White-rumped Sandpiper is known for its long-distance migration and impressive endurance during migration.
