Yucatan Bobwhite

Colinus nigrogularis (Gould, 1843)

Yucatan Bobwhite, Colinus nigrogularis, is a New World quail of Middle America, breeding from south-eastern Mexico to Honduras. It is a bird of dry shrubland, seasonally wet grassland, coastal mangroves and heavily altered former forest, and it also occurs in clearings, pine savannah, rough grassland, weedy fields and henequen plantations. The species is known as the black-throated bobwhite as well. It was described by Gould in 1843. Its range also includes Belize, Guatemala and Nicaragua, and a named site for it is the Petenes mangroves of the Yucatan.
