This six-day birding journey explores the Magallanes Region and Tierra del Fuego across coast, steppe, southern forest and wetland habitats. The route is based around Punta Arenas and travels across the strait to sites where the distinctive birds of far southern Chile can be sought.
Seabirds such as Black-browed Albatross and Southern Giant Petrel share the programme with threatened waterfowl, Magellanic Plover, Magellanic Woodpecker, Austral Parakeet and steppe specialists. A visit to the King Penguin colony at Useless Bay adds one of the region’s most unusual breeding-bird experiences. Every encounter depends on weather, access and animal movement.
