Start before dawn in Jardín for a private 12-hour route through Alto de Ventanas and cloud forest, ending at an Andean Cock-of-the-Rock lek.
About this tour
This private full day begins around 05:00 in Jardín and climbs by 4x4 to Alto de Ventanas, approximately 2,800 metres above sea level. The early timing is designed around the return of Yellow-eared Parrots to their highland feeding area, while the changing light introduces the coffee region’s mountain landscape.
After the dawn session, the route works through cloud forest at several elevations. Bird communities change as the day descends, creating opportunities for regional specialties such as Red-bellied Grackle, Golden-fronted Redstart, Dusky Piha and antpittas. The final major stop is a traditional Andean Cock-of-the-Rock display ground in the afternoon.
Paula guides in English or Spanish for a private group of one to four. Transport from and back to Jardín, field breakfast, lunch, reserve and lek entrance fees, activity insurance and a shared eBird checklist are included. Trails may be muddy and the temperature can shift from a cold highland morning to warmer conditions later in the day. Bird activity still depends on weather and natural movements, so no species is guaranteed.
