Private Cloud Forest Birding Adventure from San Salvador
Climb from San Salvador into high-elevation cloud forest for six private hours of regional-endemic birding with biologist and photographer Rodolfo Walsh.
About this tour
Leave San Salvador for a private six-hour birding visit to the country’s largest national park, a protected volcanic landscape reached in about an hour from the city. More than 6,000 hectares surround three volcanoes, with coffee plantations on the lower slopes and cloud forest between roughly 1,600 and 2,300 meters elevation.
Rodolfo selects the trail according to the group’s walking preferences, current access and bird activity. Options range from gentler forest exploration to more demanding hiking, allowing the outing to focus on observation, sound identification and photography without treating one route as compulsory. The park has 214 reported bird species and is particularly valuable for highland specialties and regional endemics.
Possible encounters include Bushy-crested Jay and Mexican Violetear, followed by a wider highland mix that can feature Green-throated Mountaingem, Flame-colored Tanager, Rufous-browed Wren and Spot-crowned Woodcreeper. Blue-and-white Mockingbird and Rufous-collared Robin are further regional interests. Northern Emerald-Toucanet, White-faced Quail-Dove, White-naped Brushfinch and Singing Quail are among the additional birds worth watching for. These are wild-bird possibilities rather than guaranteed sightings.
The published private rate is USD 170 for one birder, plus USD 50 for each additional participant, with a maximum group of four. San Salvador hotel pickup, park entrance and binocular use are included; meals are not. Submit the preferred date, party size and walking level through BirdWatch so availability, pickup time and the final plan can be confirmed.
