About this tour
This private nine-hour tour is designed for birders who want a broader view of the Helsinki region in a single day. Samuel drives the group between several selected locations and explores each productive area on foot. Rather than committing to one fixed circuit, he adjusts the route to the season, recent bird activity, weather and guest priorities.
The region offers a varied habitat network within reach of the city. A day may combine wetlands, reedbeds, woodland, fields and exposed mudflats, allowing the focus to change as conditions develop. Samuel provides a scope and helps with identification, behaviour and field context while keeping the pace relaxed enough for sustained observation and photography. Guests should expect a mixture of short drives and walks and should bring picnic food, water and clothing suitable for the forecast.
Potential species vary widely between May and September. The day may produce Red-breasted Flycatcher, Merlin, White-tailed Eagle, Blyth’s Reed Warbler, Red-throated Diver or Pallid Harrier, alongside a broader selection of southern Finland birds. None is guaranteed, and the final route is chosen to make the best responsible use of current opportunities. Depending on the program, Samuel may arrange the meeting at Malminkartano or a central Helsinki point. The exact start, pickup arrangement and private date are confirmed after inquiry.

Meet Samuel at the agreed Helsinki-area point and set out by car for a flexible full-day circuit. Over approximately nine hours, visit several locations and bird on foot across the habitats offering the strongest seasonal opportunities, with the order adjusted as weather and activity change. Bring picnic food and water; the precise meeting point, route and walking balance are confirmed for the date.

Do I need previous birding experience?
No. Samuel adapts the outing for experienced birders, beginners, nature lovers and families.
Are dates fixed?
No. These are private outings by request. Send preferred dates and group size through BirdWatch.info so availability can be confirmed.
What should I bring?
Bring binoculars if you have them, comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate layers, water, snacks and mosquito repellent when needed. Samuel can usually lend an extra pair of binoculars.
Does Samuel use playback or baiting?
No. Samuel publicly states that he does not use playback to attract birds, and the photo workshop also avoids playback and baiting.
Can photos and image order be changed?
Yes. The current photos are review selections from Samuel’s public tour pages and can be approved, reordered, replaced or removed.
