About this tour
Vashlovani compresses an unusual range of arid habitats into eastern Georgia: semi-desert and open steppe meet sparse woodland, scrub, clay cliffs and the Alazani floodplain. This private programme uses Dedoplistsqaro as the route gateway and is designed for two or three days, with the published three-day format allowing different habitats and viewpoints to be visited without assuming that every road or target will cooperate.
Open country can support larks, shrikes, European Roller, European Bee-eater and Black-headed Bunting, while scrub and drier vegetation add opportunities for Eastern Orphean Warbler. Black Francolin is a particularly relevant but scarce possibility confirmed by Nika for this tour. Broad viewpoints and cliff systems are used for raptors and vultures; the official protected-area record also underlines how seasonal and widely dispersed Vashlovani’s birdlife can be.
Nika adjusts each day for access, heat, wind, bird movement and photography light. The plan may begin with steppe and semi-desert, move toward cliffs and raptor country, then use the remaining time for the habitat that has been most productive. Spring and early summer are especially rewarding, though no named species or photographic result is guaranteed.
