Francolinus francolinus
The Black Francolin (Francolinus francolinus) is a medium-sized bird native to South Asia and parts of the Middle East. It is known for its distinctive call, a loud and repetitive 'kutroo-kutroo' sound. The male Black Francolin has a black head, neck, and breast, with white spots and streaks, while the female is more cryptically colored with brown and buff plumage. These birds are often found in open grasslands, scrublands, and agricultural areas, where they forage for seeds, insects, and small invertebrates. They are known to be shy and elusive, often running for cover rather than taking flight when disturbed.
