Private 15-Day Gujarat Birding and Wildlife Expedition
A 15-day private Gujarat circuit linking major wetlands, the Little and Greater Rann, Jamnagar coast, Gir, Velavadar and the Dang forests.
About this tour
Explore Gujarat's sharp habitat contrasts on a private 15-day route from Ahmedabad to Surat. Wetlands at Nal Sarovar lead into Kutch's two major Rann landscapes, where saline flats and scrub support Indian Wild Ass, MacQueen's Bustard, Grey Hypocolius and White-naped Tit.
The journey continues to Jamnagar for tide-aware coastal birding and then turns south to Gir National Park for Asiatic Lion and dry-forest birds. Velavadar adds Blackbuck, grassland specialists and a major winter harrier roost.
The final field day is based in the Dang forests for a careful search for Forest Owlet and other woodland birds, subject to access and current information. Exact sites and timing remain flexible because tides, road conditions, permits and recent sightings affect this wide-ranging itinerary.

Itinerary
Day 1
Ahmedabad to Nal Sarovar
Meet at Ahmedabad airport and transfer to Nal Sarovar. An introductory wetland session is possible after check-in when the arrival schedule allows.
Day 2
Nal Sarovar to the Little Rann
Bird the wetland, marshes, mudflats and nearby fields around Nal Sarovar, then make the evening transfer to the Little Rann.
Day 3
Little Rann salt flats
Use morning and afternoon 4x4 safaris on salt flats, scrub-covered islands and wetland edges for Indian Wild Ass, bustards, coursers, harriers and eagles.
Day 4
Little Rann to the Great Rann
Begin with dry-country birding before the long transfer to the Kutch region. Explore around the lodge if daylight permits.
Day 5
Grey Hypocolius and desert specialists
Take position before sunrise near favoured feeding trees for Grey Hypocolius. Later sessions move between acacia scrub, rocky edges and dry woodland for White-naped Tit and other scarce western Indian birds.
Day 6
Banni grasslands and Chhari Dhand
Combine open grassland with seasonal wetlands for larks, pipits, raptors, cranes and sandgrouse. A nocturnal wildlife drive may be possible when access and conditions allow.
Day 7
Kutch to Jamnagar
Leave the interior salt desert for the Gulf of Kutch. After reaching Jamnagar, use the remaining daylight at an urban lake or nearby wetland for storks, spoonbills, skimmers and gulls.
Day 8
Jamnagar coast and Khijadia
Let the tide determine the coastal starting point, with Crab-plover, Great Knot and mixed shorebirds as the main objectives. Later, contrast the marine flats with the freshwater and saline habitats of Khijadia Bird Sanctuary.
Day 9
Jamnagar to Gir
Take a final morning session near Jamnagar before driving to Sasan Gir. An optional local walk may be possible after arrival.
Day 10
Gir safaris
Use morning and afternoon jeep safaris in dry deciduous forest for Asiatic Lion and woodland birds. Wildlife sightings depend on current movements and park rules.
Day 11
Gir to Velavadar
Take a final Gir excursion, then drive to Velavadar. If time permits, watch grassland birds and raptors near evening roosts.
Day 12
Velavadar grasslands
Explore the grassland and saline plain by 4x4 for Blackbuck, larks and mammals, then return in the late afternoon for the winter harrier roost.
Day 13
Velavadar to the Dang forests
Bird the grassland edge before the long transfer south into the wooded hills of the Dang district.
Day 14
Forest Owlet search
Explore accessible forest around Purna or Vansda, subject to permissions, for Forest Owlet and a broader community of owls, woodpeckers and Western Ghats forest birds. The Forest Owlet is never guaranteed.
Day 15
Dang to Surat
Transfer to Surat airport according to the confirmed departure flight.
