Private 10-Day North East India Birding Tour
A private ten-day birding route through Nameri, Dirang, Sela Pass and Eaglenest, combining Himalayan foothills, wetlands and montane forest.
About this tour
This ten-day private journey connects New Delhi with some of Northeast India’s most distinctive birding landscapes. After flying to Guwahati, the route reaches Nameri National Park for two full days in the forest and riverine habitats of the eastern Himalayan foothills. White-winged Duck is a principal search species, alongside hornbills, broadbills, bee-eaters, piculets, tesias and flycatchers.
The route then gains elevation around Dirang and Sela Pass, moving through pine, alder and chestnut forest, alpine meadows, scrub and riverine habitats. Possible montane birds include Blood Pheasant, Snow Partridge, Himalayan Monal, Grandala, accentors, finches, rosefinches and high-elevation thrushes.
Three days are centered on Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, including full birding days around Bompu, Sesni and Sunderview. The sanctuary is known for Bugun Liocichla and a broad Himalayan forest assemblage that may include trogons, scimitar-babblers, shrike-babblers, cutias, parrotbills and frogmouths. Accommodation at Eaglenest is in tents, away from permanent settlement. The return journey travels by road to Guwahati before the onward flight through New Delhi. All sightings remain dependent on season and field conditions.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in New Delhi
Meet the representative at the airport, transfer to the hotel and review the travel arrangements.
Day 2
Guwahati and Nameri
Fly to Guwahati, drive to Nameri and begin evening birding around the lodge if time permits.
Day 3
Nameri National Park
Spend a full day birding forest and riverine habitats, with White-winged Duck among the principal searches.
Day 4
Nameri National Park
Continue birding Nameri and its eastern Himalayan foothill habitats.
Day 5
Dirang and Sela Pass
Explore changing elevations and habitats around Dirang and the high Sela Pass for montane species.
Day 6
Dirang to Eaglenest
Bird around Dirang, drive to Eaglenest and continue with afternoon birding near camp.
Day 7
Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary
Spend the day birding key forest sites such as Bompu, Sesni and Sunderview.
Day 8
Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary
Continue the sanctuary search for Bugun Liocichla and other eastern Himalayan specialties.
Day 9
Return to Guwahati
Drive through the eastern Himalayan landscape to Guwahati and stay overnight.
Day 10
Guwahati to New Delhi
Transfer for the flight to New Delhi and connect with the onward journey.

The official itinerary uses tented accommodation because there are no conventional lodges in the sanctuary area.

No. The route is planned around suitable habitats and experienced guides, but all wildlife sightings depend on natural conditions.
