Tokyo Imperial Palace Early Morning Birding Walk
A 90-minute early walk from Tokyo Station along the Imperial Palace moats and through Kitanomaru Park for urban waterfowl and woodland birds.
About this tour
Start the day at 07:00 near Tokyo Station and walk through one of the city’s most accessible birding areas. The flat route follows the Imperial Palace moats before entering the trees, lawns, ponds and thickets of Kitanomaru Park.
Winter waterfowl are an important feature of the moats, with Falcated Duck among the regional specialties. The park can add Varied Tit, Japanese Pygmy Woodpecker, Daurian Redstart, Dusky Thrush and Japanese Bush Warbler, depending on season and current activity.
The walk covers about 5,000 steps over ninety minutes and ends at Kudanshita Station. Yamadori Factory provides English-language guiding, with sightings dependent on weather and wild bird movements.
