About this tour
Shimba Hills National Reserve is accessible from Mombasa and Diani Beach for a full-day birding excursion. The drive is approximately one to two hours, followed by birding through coastal forest, grassland and selected viewpoints inside the reserve.
Forest trails provide the main focus for East Coast endemics and other woodland specialists. Possible target birds include Fischer’s Turaco, Southern Banded Snake Eagle, Green-headed Oriole, Spotted Ground Thrush and Sokoke Pipit. The reserve is also known for Sable Antelope, which may be encountered while moving between birding areas.
The planned day includes an early departure and can incorporate a picnic lunch at a viewpoint. Final pickup, park access and meal arrangements are confirmed before travel. Weather, trail conditions and wildlife movement determine the exact route, and neither target birds nor Sable Antelope can be guaranteed.

Birding itinerary
Depart early from Mombasa or Diani and drive approximately one to two hours to Shimba Hills. Bird forest trails and grassland edges for coastal specialties, pause for a picnic at a suitable viewpoint, and continue searching for target birds and Sable Antelope before returning.
