14-Day Birding from Nairobi to the Kenyan Coast
A 14-day birding route from Nairobi through Amboseli, Tsavo, the Taita and Chyulu hills, Arabuko Sokoke, Mida Creek and Sabaki River Mouth.
About this tour
This Nairobi-to-coast journey combines forest, savannah, dry-country, montane and tidal habitats. An arrival session in Karura Forest is followed by two days around Amboseli, where wetlands and open plains sit beneath Mount Kilimanjaro.
The route continues through Oloitokitok’s montane habitat and Tsavo West before reaching the Taita Hills. The mountain forests here are a core endemic-bird stop, after which the programme descends to the Kenyan coast. Two days in Arabuko Sokoke focus on localized forest birds, while Mida Creek and Sabaki River Mouth add shorebirds, herons, storks, gulls and terns.
Two further days in Tsavo East return to arid-zone larks, coursers, cisticolas, sunbirds and raptors. Chyulu Hills provides the final highland stage before the return to Nairobi, with a last park or forest outing possible if travel time allows. Birding and wildlife observations remain dependent on season and conditions.
