Manu Road Classic - 4 Days
Four days along the classic Manu Road from Acjanaco’s high elevations to the lowland forest around Villa Carmen. The gradual descent links Wayquecha, San Pedro, Pillcopata and hummingbird gardens across a major Andean–Amazonian gradient.
About this tour
Follow approximately 90 kilometres of Manu Road from around 3,600 metres at Acjanaco toward the 500-metre lowlands near Pillcopata. Changing altitude brings cloud forest, foothill habitat and tropical forest into a single four-day birding route.
The program includes trail time at Wayquecha and Villa Carmen, slow roadside birding through San Pedro, and garden sessions at Inkamazonia and Pico de Hoz. Toucans, parrots, tanagers and hummingbirds contribute to the wider diversity, while Cock-of-the-rock and Hoatzin are the stated focal targets.
Long days and repeated transfers make the pace moderate to active. The order and length of roadside stops can change with bird activity, weather and travel conditions.

Itinerary
Day 1
Cusco to Wayquecha
Leave Cusco at 4:30 am for the 128 km drive to Acjanaco Pass, expected to take about three hours. Enter the cloud forest and follow the winding road for another 15 km toward Wayquecha Biological Station, using important birding points for strategic stops. Take the box lunch at a suitable place according to progress, then continue slowly to the station for the night.
Day 2
Wayquecha to San Pedro
Explore the Wayquecha trails early for cloud-forest birds and orchids, then have breakfast before continuing toward San Pedro. Bird the 34 km section with stops selected for each elevation and choose a place for the box lunch according to time and pace. Reach the lodge during the afternoon.
Day 3
San Pedro to Villa Carmen
Depart at 5:00 am for Pillcopata, near the meeting of the Piñi Piñi and Pillcopata rivers. Continue another 15 minutes to Inkamazonia Hummingbird Garden, where the seasonal hummingbird total can exceed 15 species, and eat breakfast while watching the garden. Later, take the road toward Villa Carmen Biological Station. Visit Pico de Hoz at 4:00 pm for the late light and sunset over the rainforest.
Day 4
Villa Carmen to Cusco
Spend the morning on the Villa Carmen trails looking for lowland forest birds. After breakfast, begin the return to Cusco, adding selected stops for species missed during the outward journey.
