Private Nine-Day In Search of the Amazonas Caribbean Birding Tour
A private nine-day route through St. Vincent, Dominica and St. Lucia, centered on each island’s endemic Amazon parrot and other Lesser Antillean birds.
About this tour
This private nine-day journey links St. Vincent, Dominica and St. Lucia in a concentrated search for their endemic Amazon parrots. Each island also adds near-endemics, endemic subspecies and wider Lesser Antillean specialties, from hummingbirds and orioles to thrashers, warblers and flycatchers.
St. Vincent opens with coastal and garden birding before an early-morning visit to forested highlands for St. Vincent Amazon. The route then moves to Dominica, where montane forest supports both Red-necked and Imperial Amazons. A marine outing is included in the sample programme; whales, dolphins and pelagic birds are possible, but past sightings do not represent a guarantee. The Dominica stay culminates in a dedicated lookout-based parrot search around Morne Diablotin.
St. Lucia provides the final island sector. Semi-arid woodland and rainforest hold St. Lucia Thrasher, St. Lucia Amazon, St. Lucia Oriole, St. Lucia Black Finch and other local specialties. Travel is recommended from late fall through spring, when North American migrants may supplement the resident island birds. This tour is now arranged privately rather than on fixed dates, so the precise timing, price and inclusions are confirmed after enquiry. The sample route can also be paired with a Trinidad and Tobago extension.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in St. Vincent
Arrive at Argyle International Airport and transfer to the west-coast accommodation. Begin with relaxed garden and shoreline birding for regional species such as Grenada Flycatcher, Bananaquit, Spectacled Thrush and coastal birds.
Day 2
St. Vincent Amazon forest search
Make a very early drive into St. Vincent’s forested highlands for the endemic Amazon. A ridgeline vantage point is used to watch for parrots moving from roosts toward feeding areas, with activity dependent on weather and season.
Day 3
Dominica arrival and upland birding
Travel to Dominica and begin climbing through increasingly humid upland habitat. Searches can include Blue-headed Hummingbird, Lesser Antillean Euphonia, Eastern Red-legged Thrush and other forest birds before reaching the island base.
Day 5
Dominica Amazon lookout
Enter the Morne Diablotin forest area and walk to a lookout over a forested valley. The principal vigil is for Imperial Amazon and Red-necked Amazon, both of which remain difficult and condition-dependent targets.
Day 6
St. Lucia transfer and first birding
Continue to St. Lucia for the final island sector. The route introduces the island’s contrasting dry woodland and rainforest habitats, with the exact first stops determined by arrival timing.
Day 9
Final St. Lucia birding and departure
Use the final morning for any remaining St. Lucia specialties before transferring onward. Travelers taking the optional Trinidad and Tobago extension continue separately according to the confirmed arrangement.
